Christie’s Gives Pink Diamond $35M Price Tag

November 15, 2022

RAPAPORT... A pink diamond weighing more than 13 carats will go under the hammer at the upcoming Christie’s sale in New York, where it is forecast to fetch up to $35 million.

The emerald-cut, 13.15-carat, fancy-vivid-pink, VVS1-clarity stone is one of the largest of its kind ever offered at auction and is potentially internally flawless, the auction house said Monday. It will be the star of the December 6 Magnificent Jewels auction, where it is expected to bring in at least $25 million.

Earlier this month, Christie’s sold the Fortune Pink in Geneva. That diamond, a pear-shaped, 18.18-carat, fancy-vivid pink, also estimated at approximately $25 million to $35 million, fetched $28.9 million. Meanwhile, in October, Sotheby’s auctioned the Williamson Pink Star, a cushion-cut, 11.15-carat, fancy-vivid-pink, internally flawless diamond, for $57.7 million following a bidding frenzy. The total, which was nearly three times the diamond’s $21 million high estimate, made the stone the second-most valuable jewel ever sold at auction.

“Following the success of the Fortune Pink...we are proud to have been approached by a private collection to offer this incredible diamond at auction,” said Rahul Kadakia, international head of jewelry at Christie’s. “This season has seen outstanding results for fancy-colored diamonds, and this particular fancy-vivid-pink is of the highest caliber.”

Prior to the auction, Christie’s will showcase the diamond in Hong Kong and New York, it noted.
